Home safety surveys

A second set of eyes on your home.

Firefighters walk through your home with you and point out what could start a fire or slow your escape. It's free, it's voluntary, and it isn't an inspection.

How it works

You invite us, we walk it with you

A survey is a friendly walk-through, room by room, at a time that works for you. It is not a code inspection and there are no citations or fines. You get practical fixes, and we'll install a smoke alarm on the spot if you need one.

  • Alarms. Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms: where they are, how old, whether they work.
  • Escape. Two ways out of every room, clear exits, and a meeting place outside.
  • Heat & power. Space heaters, furnaces, dryer vents, cords and overloaded outlets.
  • Kitchen & storage. Cooking safety, and fuel or clutter stored too close to heat.
  • Falls. Stairs, rugs and lighting, especially for older adults.
  • Find your home. A house number we can read from the road, day or night.
