LAFAYETTE, Ind. (Oct. 15, 2026) — The Wea Township Fire Department announced continued progress this week toward placing its new ambulance into service, marking another significant milestone in the department's efforts to expand emergency medical services for the community.
The department recently received and installed a Stryker Power-LOAD system and powered ambulance cot. The equipment is designed to improve patient handling and reduce the physical demands placed on emergency personnel when loading and unloading patients.
The department also took delivery of its new ZOLL Zenix cardiac monitor and defibrillator, an important addition to the ambulance's medical equipment. Representatives from ZOLL visited the department this week to provide firefighters and EMTs with hands-on training, familiarizing personnel with the monitor's operation and capabilities.
These additions represent some of the final major equipment milestones as the department prepares to introduce ambulance transport services.
While additional preparations and regulatory requirements remain before the ambulance can officially enter service, the department is nearing completion of the project.
The addition of ambulance transport capabilities will mark an important expansion of the department's emergency medical services, allowing Wea Township firefighters and EMTs to provide both emergency medical care and transportation to appropriate medical facilities.
The department looks forward to announcing additional milestones as the ambulance approaches its official in-service date.
